March Madness in Music

Launch into springtime and help assuage your fears for upcoming AP and IB tests with some new music.

  1. “I Wanna Be Sedated” by Ramones – If you live under a rock or are one of those hipster kids who just wear old band shirts to look cool, now is your chance to experience the Ramones. Their gritty vocals matched with a catchy beat makes this song a great addition to any soundtrack.
  2. “Time of the Season” (Mono Version) by The Zombies – As a tribute to the psychedelic 70s, “Time of the Season” is all about love for your fellow human being. I think we all need to take a lesson from the Zombies to relax a little more and instead focus on spreading love in a fun catchy way rather than promoting hate.
  3. “Short Skirt/ Long Jacket” by Cake – Cake is just what it sounds like: sweet and satisfying to listen to. “Short Skirt/ Long Jacket” is super catchy and great to bob your head to, especially for all you pop punk fans.
  4. “679” (Feat. Remy Boyz) by Fetty Wap – Top 40 isn’t usually my scene, but for some reason, Fetty Wap has smuggled its way to my heart. This song’s super catchy beat and hip hop mixing allow the listener to pretend that they can dance as well as the people in viral dance videos.
  5. “Be True To Your School” by The Beach Boys – The Beach Boys are the essence of California. With their laidback vibe and songs about enjoying the sun, The Beach Boys are a hit with the whole family. “Be True To Your School” especially is great for football games to support your school team in style.
  6. “Soap” by Melanie Martinez – Melanie Martinez is one of the emerging queens of pop after her appearance on NBC’s “The Voice.” Her new album, “Crybaby,” is a tribute to the dark side of growing up, combining seemingly childlike lyrics with mature themes like heartbreak and sadness.
  7. ‘I Could Die For You” by Red Hot Chili Peppers – No band is as Californian as Red Hot Chili Peppers (well, except for maybe the Beach Boys). With its beachy guitar riffs and spring on the way hang out on the sand with this chill song.
  8. “Moaning Lisa Smile” by Wolf Alice – Moaning Lisa Smile is the ultimate angry, headbanging song that will help you release all that stress from taking hard classes. AP and IB exams are coming up, so hang in there, and take a study break to rock out.
  9. “Undercover Martyn” by Two Door Cinema Club – Take a trip back to 2010, when times were simpler and Two Door Cinema Club was hot in the indie music scene. Undercover Martyn is a strangely fast yet bittersweet song that has meaningful lyrics and a dance-worthy beat.
  10. “Writing’s On the Wall” by Sam Smith – This song recently won an Oscar for “Best Original Song” for the newest Bond movie, “Spectre.” Sam Smith even delivered an inspiring speech afterwards, emphasizing how it was a big win for the LGBT community because of his identity as an openly gay man. Though he isn’t the first openly gay man to win an Oscar, the song itself is inspiring and melodic, especially with Smith’s amazing vocals.
