This past June, Charli xcx released the album of the summer, “Brat.” “Brat” took the world by storm, so I was highly anticipating the release of her new remix album, “Brat and it’s completely different but also still Brat.” Essentially this album is identical to “Brat,” but it does feature 11 remixes of the beloved tracks. This album plays for one hour and forty five minutes. I was amused by the witty and upbeat reimagination of the songs.
Although this record was very unnecessary, the remixes are catchy and maintain the high energy of her past releases. Troye Sivan, Lorde and Billie Eilish are just three of the release’s talented features. Every collaborator’s vocals blend well with Charli’s voice and the distinct sound of “Brat.”
This remix album is refreshing. Since “Brat” was such a viral release, the majority of the songs became so overplayed and annoying. I can not listen to the original versions of “Apple” or “Girl so confusing” anymore, but the remixes saved these borderline annoying songs.
“Mean girls” is my least favorite track, because of how boring and forgettable it is. It is my only skip on the record. Every other song on the record, I have revisited and listened to again.
Overall, I really enjoyed the production of the remixes, especially “Everything is romantic” featuring Caroline Polachek. “Club classics” and “360” are two examples of the lively and uplifting production that makes every track on the album a perfect party soundtrack. My favorite elements of the musical composition were the recurring element of stuttering and heavy auto-tune.
In the future, Charli xcx should release more emotional and vulnerable songs. The world already knows and loves Charli xcx for her “party girl” persona, but I would like to see more of the vulnerable side, which was brought out by the track, “I think about it all the time.”
