In the whirlwind of high school, few events carry the same weight and anticipation as prom. It is an evening filled with lasting memories and unforgettable experiences. But prom is more than just a dance: it is a milestone full of traditions. This memorable moment took place on May 3, 2025 at the Vineyards in Simi Valley.
One of the most well-known traditions of prom is the prom court, as the crowns held by the royalty are a highly regarded idea. This year, Emma Lindroth, senior, was elected to prom royalty. “It was honestly a big shock for me as I didn’t think I was that well-known, but I am so grateful and appreciative to be honored by my classmates,” Lindroth said. “It was a very awesome experience that will be hard to forget!”
Other students found themselves occupied with the dance floor. Isabella Lewis, senior, attended prom both her junior and senior year. “I think this experience was the best venue by far,” Lewis said. Beyond the venue itself, Lewis and her friends enjoyed a one-of-a-kind night together. “Some of my favorite memories would be dancing with my friends,” Lewis said.
However, prom does not just start once one reaches the venue. The hours leading up to prom are filled with excitement and anticipation as friends gather to help each other transform into their most glamorous selves. For Lewis, her prom preparations began with an early start to her day. “I woke up early in the morning and took a shower. After that my mom did my hair and I did my makeup. Then my boyfriend arrived at my house and we started a couple TikTok transitions. After that I ate a bit and then I put on my prom dress, accessories, and heels! Then me and my boyfriend finished our prom transitions,” Lewis said.
While she is usually found in a classroom full of medical textbooks, Lorena Caulfield, NPHS Sports Medicine and Medical Terminology teacher, could be found planning prom night for weeks leading up to the event. Working alongside the junior class officers, they looked to choose a venue, get contracts approved and tour the area to decide on decorations. “You can’t please all 700 plus people attending prom; you can only hope that the majority of attendees make the best of the night,” Caulfield said. “You get out of it what you put into the night,” Caulfield said.
Prom provides an opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements and the bonds they have formed throughout their high school years. It is a time of reflection on one’s high school experience and a moment of glamour before the next step of their journey. “Embrace all the little moments you experience with your friends, you only get so many proms in life, so go out and have fun,” Lindroth said.
