Rewatching shows builds lasting comfort

Rewatching a TV show might seem as exciting as reheating leftovers, but it can end up being more satisfying and worthwhile than risking your time on something new. The concept of revisiting a show admittedly be more enjoyable and meaningful in this day and age where the number of TV shows and series available on streaming services are constantly bombarding their users with the number of shows and series available for viewing. The number of shows and series available on these services might be overwhelming for someone looking to try something new. In fact, re-watching a TV show, I believe to not be considered an unoriginal and boring activity for most people, including myself.

Knowing what is ahead does not diminish the enjoyment of watching something new, it’s just the opposite. A lot of times, starting a new series can feel like a burden rather than a pleasurable experience. With so many choices, it can become overwhelming or frustrating to have to pick a show and then find out after watching a few episodes that it was not worth it.

By revisiting a series, viewers have an understanding of both the story and the cast members or characters, which can make the experience smoother or less effortful and therefore more pleasurable. Viewers appreciate the series more and notice things they did not notice the first time. An excellent example of this type of series is “The 100.” With familiar shows, it is almost like reuniting with old friends while navigating through a stressful and busy life. Part of what adds to this comfort is knowing what will happen next in the storyline and having already seen the ending.

My guilty pleasure is the very popular cooking series on Netflix, “The Great British Baking Show.” I have watched it several times since it first aired and continue to appreciate it as much since I saw the episodes. Each time I view a major moment that has already occurred within the other seasons makes for an interesting experience to re-experience. I also enjoy watching the contestants, the intro music, and see how the show develops such a warm and comfortable atmosphere that can brighten my viewing.

I feel watching your old favorite programs will never be boring to you. This is another chance to endure some of the best stories again and appreciate them in new and meaningful ways. Seeing an old thing again can bring many memories with each viewing providing different parts of the overall story of the item creating further wisdom with each visit.
