Authorities have verified that the body discovered along Highway 101 is that of 39-year-old Guadalupe Coronel Mora, a missing former nurse from Salinas. This discovery was made after on Jan. 30, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office [VCSO] reported that a woman was seen walking alongside the freeway. When deputies could not locate the women on foot, VCSO employed the aviation unit. The body was found by The Ventura County Aviation Unit via aerial search on Jan. 31 around 12:00 p.m. Mora’s remains were located in a ravine south of the highway off a road close to Camarillo Springs. She had been missing since Jan. 14, and on Thursday, Feb. 5, Mora was positively identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. The group is still investigating the cause of death. Foul play was suspected initially, and at this time it has not been ruled out by California Highway Patrol [CHP].
Prior to her death, Mora was seen driving a silver 2018 Ford F-150. After her truck collided with a concrete barrier and sustained minor damage, it was discovered abandoned on Jan. 15. At 5:20 a.m., the CHP towed it, and on Jan. 18, officers went to see Mora’s parents to ask questions regarding the car. Despite the crash, she was not officially reported missing until Jan. 24 to the Salinas Police Department. Ventura County Police Department and Salinas County Police Department had not been in contact with one another about the case until Jan. 30. Her two cell phones were still in her bedroom, but her wallet and handbag were discovered inside the truck. Three-quarters of a mile from the truck’s location, her body was found.
Safety issues along the Highway 101 corridor have been brought to light by the finding. According to Mora’s family, she had recently lost her job in October and was planning to move in with her family. In their grief, family and friends recall Mora as a devoted healthcare professional and dedicated family member. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
