Over the years, The Weeknd has become a fan favorite. With his intimate and electric style, he has stood out from other artists. I have always enjoyed his music because it is so different from what we hear of other modern musicians, and you can tell he is not afraid to experiment with his sound. On Jan. 31, he dropped his new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow.”
The album was highly anticipated by fans, as his drop of the single “Timeless,” featuring Playboi Carti, generated much excitement for his new project. It was a classic example of The Weeknd’s signature sound, and was quick in becoming one of my favorites.
The beginning of the album is different from what I had expected. The beats were the same techno and fresh sound, but much more upbeat than what he typically goes for. Not to say that I did not like it. The further down you get in the album, the more I heard what I had expected.
Some of my favorite tracks included “Take Me Back to LA,” which had a slow and methodical beat with large drops, “Wake Me Up,” which was one of the new upbeat songs I had previously mentioned and “Enjoy the Show,” one of my favorites simply because it plays to The Weeknd’s strengths.
Although there is not a noticeable difference between the tracks on his previous albums and this one, I have to say that it is not one of my favorites. Overall there is not much of a wow factor, and it all felt very similar. There were some tracks where I found myself confused whether or not a song had ended and a new song had begun. They almost blended together in a way, which was not necessarily a negative thing.
Beyond that, I can not complain that they sounded similar because they did sound good. It may not be my favorite of his creations, but it is undeniably a good one. The vibe that The Weeknd was shooting for was most definitely achieved, and I can be certain that I will be hearing these songs on social media and at parties for the foreseeable future.
