Although the classic dish of french fries originated in Belgium, it is an integral part of American culture and can be served among many meals such as burgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads. You name it and it can probably be served with fries at most restaurants in America.
Due to the fact that there is a surplus of fries available in Newbury Park, we tried to condense our list into only the most relevant chains in our area.
Our first stop was Carl’s Jr. Despite the humble presentation of the fries, they turned out to be decent. They are a thinner fry and have a respectable ratio of fry to salt. Overall, as french fry connoisseurs, these are not terrible and yet not the best. The next day I had practically forgotten about them due to their unremarkable nature.
Next on the list was Urban Plates. Conversely, their fries were delectable. They were much thicker and offered a delicious, salty taste. Paired with a burger, they were satisfying and even tasted good cold.
Moving on to the most famous fast food restaurant, McDonald’s is home to the classic french fry. If anything, these are the baseline of all fast food fries. Although their soggy texture and incredible amount of salt don’t put them at the top, their flavorful taste and freshness earn them a respectable median placement among all fries.
Chick-fil-A offers a unique shape to the french fry world, the waffle fry, cooked to perfection and often paired with the delicious Chick-fil-A sauce. Their addicting flavor and perfect amount of salt truly make them an amazing fry. Although Chick-fil-A is known for their chicken sandwiches, no trip should be done without a pack of their fries.
On the same level as Chick-fil-A fries are Shake Shack fries. Shake Shack offers their fries with cheese, bacon, or just plain and they do not disappoint. They are perfectly cooked each time and are consistently perfectly salted. They also do not lack the taste of a real potato and serve as a perfectly divine yet not overly-salted french fry.
Offered in many different forms, potatoes are the ultimate vegetable, particularly offered as french fries. Across Ventura County, there are highs and lows, but each fry has its own unique distinctive properties that make it notable.
