Norway fights their way to the top in the 2022 Winter Olympics

Due to the pandemic, this year’s Winter Olympics were back to back with 2020’s Summer Olympics. Taking place in Beijing, the 2022 Winter Olympics featured 15 sports that were split into three categories: ice sports, alpine skiing and snowboarding, and various Nordic events.

Figure skating is considered to be the most popular sport in the Winter Olympics. Nathen Chen (USA) took home men’s gold, Anna Shcherbakova (Russia) took home women’s gold, and Sui Wenjing and Han Cong (China) took home gold for Figure Skating Pairs, giving China their ninth gold of the games. Nathan Chen was the star of this year’s Olympic games. Skating to “Rocket Man” by Elton John, Chen took home gold after beating Japan.Norway set a new record for the most gold medals won in a single Olympic Winter Games. Overall, Norway came out on top with 37 medals overall (16 gold, eight silver, 13 bronze). The USA was ranked in fourth place with 25 medals overall (eight gold, 10 silver, seven bronze). In addition, Elana Meyers Taylor won her fifth Olympic medal for bobsledding, making her the most decorated African-American Winter Olympian in history.
