Ryan Goldstein, a 26-year-old resident of Thousand Oaks, was accused of attempting to murder his mother, who has been identified as a 54-year-old woman.
On Nov. 9, deputies received a call to an apartment on the 2500 block of Hickory Wood Lane in Thousand Oaks around 10:30 a.m. At the apartment, they found Goldstein’s mother with a stab wound on her back and cuts on her face. She was treated at the scene and taken to the Los Robles Regional Medical Center. She survived despite her injuries.
Later, an investigation by detectives at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office determined that Goldstein was guilty of the stabbing and cuts to his mother before he attempted to flee the scene. When deputies approached Goldstein in the center of his apartment complex, Goldstein punched a deputy in the face. He continued to resist the deputies as they arrested him. He had also caused a hand injury to a second officer, according to the “Thousand Oaks Acorn.”
Both officers were treated at the hospital, and due to their injuries, Goldstein’s arrest was classified as attempted murder, resisting an executive officer and battery against a peace officer, causing injury. Evidence to support his murder attempt was found in his apartment, including the weapon of attack. His arraignment was set for Nov. 12 but was moved to Nov. 17.
At this arraignment, Goldstein pleaded not guilty. Despite this, the District Attorney’s office requested that Goldstein be held without bail. However, this request has not officially been ruled on while the court is waiting for a report to assess pretrial risk from the probation office.
Goldstein remains in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility, but is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 14 for an early disposition.
