Although winter just ended on Mar. 20, many students on the Newbury Park High School [NPHS] campus can be found wearing summer attire to accompany the 80 degree weather, such as tank tops, shorts, hats and the controversial footwear: flip flops. Ava Agopian, junior, and Kambria Mastro, senior, debate whether or not these open-toed shoes should be worn to school.
According to an anonymous survey conducted by the Panther Prowler, 60.9% of students believe that students should wear flip flops to school. However, only 41.3% of students actually wear flip flops to school.

Often referred to on social media as “letting the dogs out,” certain students at NPHS, such as Ava Agopian, junior, believe these dogs belong in a cage. “I grew up in a household where it was very strict. So for me, I just think that it’s a little bit out there. I think that it’s maybe too much like exposure, in my opinion, and I think that we should have close toed shoes,” Agopian said.

Kambria Mastro, senior
While some may believe these sandals are too exposing, Kambria Mastro, senior, can often be seen around campus wearing her pair of Rainbows. “I personally really like wearing flip flops. It’s always been a thing, at my house, because my mom’s from Hawaii. I think people should wear flip flops, especially because we live in California, to soak in the sun as much as possible,” Mastro said.
