While 2016 may not have been one of the greatest years, it was indeed a great year of movies. This upcoming year holds even more promise for the entertainment industry. Hopefully the year itself will be as good as its movies.
Possibly the most anticipated movies coming in 2017 are Marvel’s comic book based flicks. “Spider-man: Homecoming” is Marvel’s next standalone movie about the friendly neighborhood Spider-man himself. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.ll” is also set to release this year. With the first one being a huge hit, the audience is hungry for more. Marvel Studios will also be releasing another installation of the chronicles of Thor, this one titled, “Thor: Ragnarok.” Marvel fans hope to see the return of the Hulk in at least one of these movies, even if just in a cutscene. Additionally, Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine for the last time in the movie Logan, where Wolverine is in his old age and meets a young girl much like him.
Like Marvel, DC Comics also has big movies planned for 2017. A Wonder Woman standalone is coming out, explaining the origins of the power house and, soon after that, Justice League will be coming to theaters. The Justice League is a team of super-powered individuals that fight threats on Earth. So far, DC has not been doing very well with ratings but hopefully they can redeem themselves.
Comic book movies are not the only ones people are waiting for. “War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Kong: Skull Island” are also coming this year. “War for the Planet for the Apes” is the last movie in the prequel trilogy. The last two movies did not disappoint and there are high hopes for this one. “Kong” is about the famous giant gorilla King Kong. Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson explore an island and encounter monsters of all different types. The movie is set in a more modern setting compared the the original.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the next in line for the Pirates of Caribbean saga. Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, is faced with a new threat: his dead enemies. A Disney favorite, “Beauty and the Beast,” is coming to the big screen, starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. Possibly the most famous saga in the world is continuing on with “Star Wars: Episode Vlll.” Episode VII CGI and plot were riveting. We can only expect better for the next one with the return of Luke Skywalker. Lightning McQueen returns in “Cars 3.” The trailer revealed a major crash for McQueen. The movie will reportedly be about McQueen “getting his mojo back”, with the help of his new friend as a technician.
The first “Kingsman” movie was a hilarious movie about British secret service agents. In the new movie, “Kingsman: The Golden Service,” the main character Eggsy and his friend travel to the United States to team up with their American counterparts.
There are many more movies coming out this year, some will break records and some will be forgotten. Regardless, it will be a great year at the box office.
