Moving to Paris might be a challenge regarding learning the culture and language, but as the new season of “Emily in Paris” is released, we continue to see how Emily is thriving in this new city. In previous seasons, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, moves to Paris for her work as a marketing executive. Once joining the office in Paris, Emily documents her life through social media, and becomes very popular. Running up her apartment, she meets the owner of a nearby restaurant and her neighbor named Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo, and they quickly bond. Shortly afterwards, she meets a student in her French class named Alfie, played by Lucien Laviscount. Emily quickly falls into a love triangle, and is stuck between who she should choose. Although the love triangle was predictable, it was a huge part of the show and helped to make it very interesting and emotional. Finally, Emily makes her decision, despite her unresolved feelings for the other. Along with her intriguing love life, throughout the seasons, bright colors and patterns are used with each of Emily’s outfits, keeping the audience wondering what Emily will wear next.
In season four part one, Emily officially decides to leave her office in the U.S. and focus on her job in Paris. It was refreshing seeing Emily do what was best for herself and leave behind Madeline, her former boss, who was very messy and tiresome at times. Meanwhile, she starts to get hate on social media due to her messy relationships. Emily is kept busy trying to manage work, social media and her relationships. Viewers get a glimpse of Paris’ setting while Emily explores the city. Throughout the show the setting and costumes provide a modern Parisian approach. One of our favorite outfits is Emily’s blue blazer. Emily’s outfit paired beautifully with the garden setting used. The blue really complimented her brown hair and bangs. Although the series maybe a little cheesy at times, it is a lighthearted show that pulls you in with its romance, fun storyline and setting. On top of that, many find joy choosing sides of who they think Emily should be with. We also love the actors and how the show demonstrates the friendships made in a workplace. Emily’s relationships with her friends and coworkers are especially highlighted this season which is a refreshing change after the close focus on her romantic relationships in past seasons.
Part two of the fourth season of “Emily in Paris” was released shortly after season one. In this part Camille reveals some shocking news that shapes the rest of the season. We thought it brought a new aspect of drama to the show and a much needed change for Emily. Speaking of Emily, this season we really see her bloom as she takes the narrative of her own story and starts prioritizing her own happiness. Emily also meets an Italian polo player while on vacation. It seems watchers can expect him as a returning character in season five as Emily ends up visiting him with a few unexpected guests as things in Paris become increasingly more complicated. This season provided even more drama and layering than the seasons prior. With the addition of new characters, the show had an added flair of drama while still sticking to the general storyline. While the costumes throughout this season were quite avant-garde, we believe them to be crucial to the storytelling and portrayal of Emily. The added textures and patterns are quite refreshing to see in a world filled with bland beige and millennial gray. While to some Emily’s wardrobe may be a bit unconventional and inconsistent, it is important to her character’s portrayal and the overall dramatic flair of the show. We also believe that the highlights of Mindy and Sylvie’s storylines are quite important and emphasize the importance of female empowerment.
Overall we loved this season and are excited that Netflix has announced the renewal of the show and Emily’s return not only in Paris but in Rome. With the addition of new characters and new storylines, season five is highly anticipated and will hopefully give Emily a happy ever after. We are excited to see what comes next and highly recommend this show.
