Trump proposes his cabinet for the upcoming term

President-Elect Donald Trump has proposed several people for cabinet positions for his 2025 presidential term. His cabinet will include the Vice President and the 15 heads of the executive departments.

The U.S. secretary of state has been filled by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, despite campaigning against Trump in the 2016 election. This role will be carrying out the President’s foreign policy through the state department and the Foreign Service of the United States. Rubio will confront conflicts like Russia’s war with Ukraine and the dispute in the Middle East.

Pete Hegseth, military veteran and Fox News host, was proposed as the defense secretary. This would be Hegseth’s first position in a political office. If elected, Hegseth will oversee the entire defensive department and be the main policymaker and adviser.

Robert F Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine skeptic and environmental lawyer, was proposed for the head of Health and Human Services. Kennedy would have a large control over the Food and Drug Administration and would oversee the approval of drugs, medical devices and biological products. He would be included in any changes made to Medicaid, a health care program that provides coverage for 72.5 million citizens, by Trump or any other congressional Republicans.

Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, which provides tech services to oil and gas corporations, was proposed as the energy secretary. He would bring Trump’s promise to increase U.S. energy production to life by maximizing fracking, a method to recover oil from the ground.

Linda McMahon, World Wrestling Entertainment cofounder, was nominated as head of the Department of Education. McMahon would be tasked with closing down the Department of Education, something that Trump has discussed for some time. “We want to bring education back to the states,” Trump said, according to CNN.

Elon Musk, billionaire and owner of Tesla, has been chosen as head of Department of Government Efficiency, also known as “DOGE,” along with Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential nominee. It would serve as an advisory institution that will identify, mainly, budget  issues and create strategies or give guidance to the White House, agency leaders and congress. They also aim “to cut regulations, spending and head counts within the federal government,” according to BBC.

If all Democratic senators and four Republican senators disagree with a nomination, then they aren’t elected. If there’s a tie, Vice-President JD Vance will confirm a nominee.
