Early in the morning on Jan. 9, one person was killed and six people were injured in a shooting at a house party on Winnetka Avenue and Hatteras Street in Woodland Hills. The gunman began shooting at the crowd on the dance floor as he was escorted off the premises after his involvement in an argument over an unknown cause. After the dispute, the 16-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene. This victim has recently been identified as Sah’Dell Roberts, a student from Highland High School in Sacramento. The other victims, six men ranging from 19-years-old to 37-years-old, survived and made it safely to the hospital.
Rage Parties, the group which organized this event, shared that one of their founders and security guards were a part of the group who sustained injuries. The gunman managed to bring his weapon into the party despite security patting everyone down on the way into the house. The party was posted on various social media platforms along with street signs as a “VIP party” which attracted around 200-300 partygoers. This “flyer party”, which advertised having alcohol and drugs, took place at a 8000 square foot hill-top mega-mansion.
Over the years, this property became known for being rented out for various parties and events. The police had received minor cases from the mansion in previous years however, it was not marked as a “problem location.” When the police arrived around 1:30 a.m. many of the partygoers had already fled the scene in extreme ways such as hopping fences or balconies and running away. Following the incident, Rage Parties shared on Instagram their condolences for the family affected and the attendees of the party.
The investigation is still searching for additional information to find the suspect and the Los Angeles Police Department [LAPD] will take their next steps by checking surveillance footage from inside and around the mansion. Although the motive and identity of the gunman is still unknown, the police are looking to discover more information through contacting those who attended the party. As the search for the gunman carries on, police ask anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation by calling the LAPD at (818) 374-9550.
