There is no greater tragedy than being excited to watch your favorite movie, only to go through all the work and anticipation of opening Netflix to find that it has been replaced by some millennial children’s garbage TV show.
Netflix was created in 1997 but gained much of its popularity during the 2000s. Since then, it has added an endless amount of popular shows and movies to its stockpile. This includes children’s shows and movies, action movies, horror movies and TV shows. Usually, a film will reach Netflix close to a year after it is released in theaters. Recently, that time has been cut down to often times less than six months.
The first Netflix Originals, films produced exclusively by Netflix, started in 2012, but their popularity skyrocketed when “House of Cards” was released the following year. Most Netflix Originals are meant for an older audience, but they have also incorporated many children’s shows. Their most successful originals have been series. Netflix and Marvel collaborated to release “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders.” “Narcos” debuted in the same year as “Daredevil” and has since gone on for three seasons while “House of Cards,” starring Kevin Spacey, has gone on for five seasons after releasing in 2013.
But even Netflix does not have unlimited space for all their movies and shows. Many films have been taken off their list in order to add more. In recent years, Netflix has begun to withdraw fan favorites such as “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and, quite tragically, “Nacho Libre.” At the same time, terrible children’s shows have stood the test of time on Netflix, as well as Netflix’s own original shows.
Most Netflix Originals have great actors and storylines, but after a certain point, they begin to become repetitive with the same dark and gloomy tone and more than enough blood and violence. The reason so many are still being produced is because they make the company the most money, which is necessary for a company of their size, but it happens at the expense of quality content.
Netflix is still one of the best entertainment companies, but it also has major flaws. Fan favorite shows that draw people into the streaming site are too often replaced. Even just a warning before shows and movies were withdrawn would fix a lot of dissatisfaction. The future still looks good for Netflix as long as they make a couple simple changes. Some deals with cinema companies and a new stock of movies and shows is sure to get rid of any resentment.
