He’s a captain of our varsity football team and was recently recruited by the University of Oregon. He is Zach Okun, the 6’4’’ lineman who has showcased his talents time and time again. In addition to his recruitment, another big honor has come Okun’s way this year. He has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All American Bowl, one of the most prestigious honors for a high school football player.
“Playing in this game has been my biggest goal for the entirety of my football career and being selected is an incredible honor,” Okun said.
Okun is one of only 90 players selected, some to represent the East and others to represent the West in a classic East vs. West game. Many of the All American alumni have gone on to have great professional football careers including the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck and Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles.
“I’m very excited for the challenge of playing against players of the same skill level, and knowing that it’s just a taste of what college football will be like for me,” Okun said, “It is an unbelievably gratifying experience. It is also really cool being viewed as one of the best high school football players in the country and I couldn’t feel more blessed.”
The other members of the varsity football team are excited about watching Zach experience this rare opportunity and are supporting him through the process.
“I think it’s very exciting that Zach has been chosen to be an All American and it’s an honor to play with such a great leader, player and teammate. #GoDucks,” said teammate Shane Sipes.
As the January 3, 2015 game day approaches, Okun feels as if his years of hard work are finally paying off. “I’m very excited to be able to represent my great school and family in the biggest all star game in the country,” Okun said.
