Trader Joe’s Valentine’s sweets stole my heart

As the Valentine’s season concludes, I have noticed numerous pink packaged products lining the shelves of Trader Joe’s. While I usually gravitate towards ice cream products, I decided it was time for a festive change to honor the love (and sweets) in the air.

Mini Heart Cookies– 5/5, I had high expectations for these and was not let down. The dark chocolate accompanied with the thin chocolate shortbread cookie was decadent and had a satisfying crunch. As a lover of dark chocolate, these stole my heart.

Caramel Hearts– 1/5, When I heard dark chocolate caramel hearts, I questioned what could possibly go wrong. Little did I know these deceiving pockets of disgustingness would melt my hopes and dreams. Instead of a soft chocolate paired with soft caramel they were both hard and separate from each other. The caramel tasted like fake maple syrup filled with grains of salt.

Gummy Xs and Os– 4/5, This trio of cherry, strawberry and lemon resembled Trader Joe’s popular treat, Scandinavian Swimmers, with a less chewy texture. I thought the design of x’s and o’s was festive and would be fitting for a Galentine’s party. My only criticism is that my gummies were oddly greasy, which could have been due to the hot weather.

Marshmallow Hearts– 3/5, The combination of strawberry and chocolate is iconic to Valentine’s day, but these didn’t pierce my heart like a cupid. The milk chocolate dipping could have been firmer and I would have preferred a chewier marshmallow. The sweetness of the chocolate was overpowering and I would not pick these up in future years.
