Why is dance for Dance for Hope important to you? “Dance for Hope is important to me because, first of all I’ve been doing it for the last three years, and it’s important because it raises a lot of cultural awareness, which is ultimately what we’re trying to do, along with raising money for cancer. It’s important for me because I get to interact with a lot of my friends, interact with a lot of underclassmen that I don’t see a lot of the time, and that’s ultimately what matters to me because it’s new experiences, new people, that’s all that matters in the last couple years of high school and I really enjoy that.”

Why is dance important? “Dance is important because you need to learn about different cultures and how people express themselves, and it’s also a good way to show who you are and show what you want to bring to the world.”

What does Dance for Hope mean to you? “To me, it means a lot of things. First, it’s opening up a new culture to me. I get to experience so many new things. Second, I get to dance which is such a fun passion. I’ve been dancing for around four years so it’s really fun to be able to do that again, and lastly I get to meet new people and I made a lot of new friends, and a lot of close lifelong friends that I look forward to having new friendships with through this program.”

What was your experience like in Dance for Hope? “I’m not someone that dances at all. This is my first time dancing, so it was honestly really, really hard. I didn’t know what to do, but working with everyone has been amazing; I’ve met so many amazing people and I’m just so excited for Dance for Hope and getting all those profits to American Cancer Society. What would you say about people who are intimidated to try Dance? I would say I’m one of you. I used to be one of you. I would be like, “oh I don’t want to dance, why would I do that? I suck,” but it’s honestly been so fun, I’m so grateful for people who asked me to do it. I’m so happy and I would say everyone needs to try dance at least once in their life.”

What’s your favorite part about being in IB dance? “I really like IB Dance because it’s more of a creative way to do do dance rather than the typical technique that you learn in a regular dance class. You get to create dances and try out different forms that we usually wouldn’t do in a regular class.”
-
-
Why is Dance for Hope important? “Dance for Hope is really important to me because a lot of family members have had cancer, so it’s really special for me and I’m doing it for them.”

Why would somebody be interested in taking IB Dance? “I think IB Dance is really special, because not only do you grow as a dancer, with many different styles, but you also grow as a person. IB Dance is a really amazing way to connect with people that you would’ve never had any interest or met. For example, I’m now really good friends with Dance Team people, who I was once afraid of, and now we’re really good friends so it’s just a really good way to open up, and be yourself in front of people, and teachers, and do dances that you never would’ve expected to do in your lifetime.”
