Driving through homecoming weekend

In the pulse of purple and green lights, students spun and swayed to the music at this year’s homecoming dance. Dance-goers donned formal attire, some inspired by the “roaring twenties” theme, and spent the evening in the quad with games, snacks and song.

Shimmy! – Before the homecoming dance and football game, the homecoming rally was held during the school day. Students played games and watched the dance and cheer teams perform. Ever Irete, senior, spent time preparing for the event by learning the routine for the rally and helping the JV team so they could perform together smoothly. “Normally our halftimes are separate each year or for every performance, but the homecoming one is usually the one that we do with JV, and it was awesome,” Irete said.

Pull up in the coop – Allie Mohelnitzky, senior, (on the left) ran for homecoming court and was announced homecoming queen during the game. “I was on the field escorting the Panther the whole time, who happened to be my escort for the ceremony for homecoming, so that was really fun being on the field because I’m usually up in the Panther pit,” Mohelnitzky said. The next day, at homecoming, Mohelnitzky also had a great time at the dance and was interested in the “Roaring Twenties” theme. “I thought it was really cool to see how people dressed up to the theme […] I saw a lot of people who actually went full on flappers.

Puttin’ on the ritz – Kyle Do, senior, (far right) poses with friends at Peppertree Park before the homecoming dance. Do was drawn to the dance due to this year’s theme, “I decided to go to homecoming because I liked the Gatsby theme. It was a comfortable, nice experience. The funniest part for me was the fact that [my friends and I] were trying to slow dance but the music did not fit the rhythm at all, but that added to the entertainment of it all,” Do said.

A little party never killed nobody! – The homecoming dance offered a variety of activities other than dancing, and Caiden Inglehart, sophomore, took part in just about all of them. “I really liked the mosh pit, and everyone was just having a great time together, jumping up and down and listening to the songs,” Inglehart said. Because this was his first time at homecoming, Inglehart had high hopes for the night. “I really liked the pool table. We were all having a blast playing there, and everyone’s taking turns and playing pool, which was cool,” Inglehart said.

Making memories – Brielle Anderson, senior, and Brooke Williams, junior, had an amazing time dancing, jumping around, and smiling to their favorite songs together, and made memories that will last forever. “For one of the songs they played Just Dance on the screen and me and my friend played along [which] was really fun,” Williams said.
