Fall drinks “leaf” me happy

•

Fall may have arrived in Newbury Park, but that does not typically put the forecast below 80 degrees. As an avid coffee drinker and maker, I chose to experiment with what is the best iced pumpkin latte in Conejo Valley. To me, what constitutes a perfect pumpkin latte is one with a strong pumpkin flavor, but not to the point that it overpowers the coffee. Looking for spice and a bit of caffeine, I chose to review drinks from Conejo Coffee, Makena Koffee and Whole Foods.

Conejo Coffee

$9.00

“Pumpkin Patch Latte” – 7/10, Topped with a delicious pumpkin cold foam and lined with cinnamon spice syrup, the sweetness of this drink balanced the bitterness from the coffee. The coffee had a unique flavor which I had not expected, but I am not sure I would pick this again due to the price.

Makena Koffee

 $7.05

“Fall in a Cup” – 5/10, While the Maui Latte from Makena is one of my favorite coffees, this pumpkin twist on it was a let down. I was pleased by the initial flavor but the aftertaste left me irked. The whipped cream took away from the overall pumpkin flavor and had more of a milk flavor than anything else.

Whole Foods pumpkin drink

$5

“Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte” – 10/10, Although I rarely hear people talking of Whole Foods’ coffee, this latte was delectable and checked all my boxes. It had more of a nutmeg and cinnamon spice flavor than pumpkin, but I enjoyed this since it allowed the coffee flavor to shine through.
