On May 19, Debbie Dogancay, NPHS’ very own IB coordinator and science teacher, was named the Ventura County Teacher of the Year. Dogancay has been a teacher at NPHS for 22 years, and this is the first time she’s won this coveted award. “It’s a little strange to be singled out in this way because there are so many great educators. At the same time, it’s a great honor and feels really nice,” Dogancay said. She was nominated by the late Christine Hodson so the award has some emotional weight for Dogancay. “She nominated me for a bunch of years. She was recruiting other people to write letters because she felt so strongly that [I] should have that award,” Dogancay said.
