Broadcasting 1 shines in the spotlight

In Broadcasting 1, a class available for students for the first time this year, students learn in-depth the skills it takes to become an on-air journalist. As their class wraps up for the semester, they will apply their skills as they fill in for the current Panther TV members for one episode.

Brian Russell, senior, will be anchoring this episode along with three other students in the class: AJ De Vos, Paige Hajiloo and Peyton Tovey, sophomores.

“To prepare for the episode, everyone in the class worked together to decide on our stories,” Russell said. “We incorporated school announcements with packages made by our class… Our previous project was a fake episode of PTV, and that has really helped us to prepare.”

PTV will be integrated as a second year broadcasting class, giving students an interesting career oriented technical education class to pursue if interested in broadcast journalism.

Tovey will be anchoring the episode along with Russell, and although it is a fun activity for the Broadcasting 1 class, Tovey learned how much work it takes to put together a single episode.

“I would love people to know how much time, work and effort goes into the making of the episode and that it’s the jobs of the people behind the camera that are the hardest and most crucial,” Tovey said.
