The Reign of Terror Haunted House at the Janss Marketplace is a Thousand Oaks Halloween favorite. The elaborate haunted house opens every October, drawing large crowds from the surrounding areas. However, the Reign of Terror is only made possible by volunteers and supporters who donate time and money to bring the event to the public every Halloween. One of those supporters, 35-year-old Tom Hood, was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Hood is a husband and the father of four daughters, all between the ages of five and eight. To help him battle the medical bills, the Reign of Terror volunteers will open the haunted house for one night on Feb. 13., and 100 percent of the ticket sales will go to Hood and his family.
Hood has been an active volunteer with the Reign of Terror for the past several years and the community has embraced the chance to help him out. Members of the Haunt Community, people who sponsor and create haunted houses across the country, have promised their support for the event. Haunters from as far as Florida are donating money to Hood as well as traveling to California to attend. On the night of the special Reign of Terror, the Sunset Terrace Marketplace at the Janss will also be donating a part of their proceeds to Hood.
The full 70-room Reign of Terror will be open in Hood’s honor. The intricate props, sets, costumes and lighting designs will be up in full force and those who attend the event will be able to have the Halloween spirit brought to them early this year, while donating to a worthy cause at the same time.
The box office will open at 6:30 on Feb. 13. Tickets for the event are $10 at the door, with VIP tickets that offer reduced waiting times available for $25.
