Starting every day on the right foot, Alana Bond, English teacher, gets a brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso from Starbucks. Having earned her teaching credential from Dartmouth, Bond now teaches IB Language and Literature, year one, and advises full IB students on the extended essay. Growing up, Bond enjoyed attending school and learning about American history and chemistry, but her true passions shined in reading and writing. “I believe I just always really loved school as a kid. So what better profession to take on than one that allows me to come back to school every day and share my love of knowledge,” Bond said.
Besides getting to work with new students every year, Bond’s love for teaching expands further. “I really love planning, because I like the intellectual aspects of everything. Once I know my students, I like figuring out a way that will actually reach them and get them to be practicing the skills that they need,” Bond said.
Outside of school, in her free time, Bond enjoys doing a variety of activities. “I like to read. I like to watch TV shows and movies that are of value. I like hiking and traveling. I love basketball; watching it, not playing it,” Bond said. Bond has always enjoyed watching the game, especially from a young age. “I’ve been a New York Knicks fan since I was a small child growing up in New York, so I am still that today,” Bond said.
If Bond were given a day off to do anything, she would take advantage of the day by relaxing and enjoying her free time. “I would like to take a day trip somewhere where it’s possible to go enjoy yourself in a day and then come back for the next day and not have to worry about anything,” Bond said.
Given the opportunity to become anything other than a teacher, Bond would look into pursuing a career in law. “It’s a hard [question], because I actually do really like teaching. I know not everyone does. I’ve also been interested at different points during my life in law. So maybe I would pursue law school and become an attorney only for the highest cases,” Bond said.
