Journalism students represent Conejo Valley at Sequoia KA19 podcast

Students of Sequoia Middle School gathered around, eager to listen to their monthly podcast. Karla Stevenson, teacher at Sequoia Middle School, hosted a podcast for her class on Oct. 9. Members of The Arrow, The Lancer and The Prowler, three high school newspapers in the Conejo Valley Unified School District, were interviewed.

The three school papers were able to answer questions about the forum that they held with the school board candidates. During the forum, the candidates were able to state their goals and how they would benefit the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

The students of Sequoia Middle School learned about the various questions each newspaper asked and the process the school board candidates are going through in order to secure a position as a school board member. Stevenson’s class kept an open mind as they intently concentrated on what the newspaper staff from Thousand Oaks, Westlake and Newbury Park High School had to say about their experiences with the forum.

The Arrow, The Lancer and The Prowler demonstrated leadership and speaking skills, as well as set an example of interview etiquette for the middle school class. Both Stevenson and her class gained insight into not only what the school board candidates would do to improve the Conejo Valley Unified School District, but also what the three leading high school papers do in order to achieve information.
