Winter Sports Update

Boys’ Basketball: 0-6

Because of their success in the past few years, the team has been moved up into Division 1A, the most competitive division of CIF. A few close calls have not gone the way the team would have hoped this year, with score margins falling in favor of rival teams. However, the Panthers were able to keep games close with their hot outside shooting as well as their chemistry on and off the court. “I feel as if we are more of a family. Most of us have grown up together and this is the last big thing we are going to do together before we graduate,” said Andrew Mason, senior. “I have much love for my teammates and also feel confident that we have enough young talent to improve our program in years to come.”

Girls’ Basketball: 4-2

Following a successful CIF season last year, the team has come out on top against all of their league opponents except Oaks Christian. After a recent success against Thousand Oaks, the team is currently placed second in their league. “Our team has improved greatly since our fall league games and we are really starting to come together – not as just a group of individuals but more of a family who can trust each other,” said Chloe Diestel, junior. “ It’s helping us to improve our games and communicate more on defense.”

Boys’ Soccer: 4-2-1

Boys’ soccer has had some exciting games so far this season, and has big goals continuing on their CIF journey. “Soccer is a mental game as well as physical, and I think all of the guys on our team have great chemistry that helps us push through one game at a time,” said Dylan McDonnell, junior. “Our goal as a team is to secure a home playoff game.”

Girls’ Soccer: 3-2-1

The girls’ team has started a successful season this year, and is hoping to experience the same CIF playoff journey that they did last year. “At first, in preseason, we weren’t doing that well. But we kept believing in each other and in our coaches and we kept working hard in practice,” said Katie Meyer, freshman. “Now we’re in second place and we’re working to get into the playoffs.”

Girls’ Water Polo: 4-2

The only team that has been able to take down the girls’ water polo team this season is Agoura, who are currently 5-0. “We work very well as a team and really know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. And I really feel like we are a big water polo family,” said Hillary Flores, senior.  “As of now, we are second in the league and we hope to be successful in CIF.”

Wrestling: 3-1

With only two more meets left, the Panthers are looking to continue their winning streak and snag a league victory this season. “While a lot of the other teams in the league have lost really good seniors and gotten weaker, we’ve become a lot stronger, and I can see from this year’s freshman that we will continue to be good,” said Ryan Sandstrom, senior. “This has been a great year for us.”
